"You Guys Know It Doesn't Work With Just Any Black Guy, Right?"

SNL's Seth Meyers' comment during his broadcast on January 31st now sounds prophetic. The Repugs just don't get it. Michael Steele, what the hell are you talking about, with your ideas of bringing an "'off the hook' public relations offensive...by applying the party's principles to “urban-suburban hip-hop settings”? Did you get a good look at your party? Did you see all those old white guys in cowboy hats here at the Excel Center last fall? Are you so dazzled by being the newest spook sitting at the door that you forgot who you worked for? The Republican party is brain-dead, bereft of new ideas, out of touch with the day-to-day lives of most Americans, and you think that rebranding yourselves will win you votes?

Who the fuck do you think you're kidding?

And the rest of the Repugs, they're as clueless and shameless as they come. We've got now, what, a half-dozen GOP members of Congress who voted against the stimulus bill, but now are bragging to their constituents that they brought home the bacon for them? The Party of No transformed into the Party of "Gimme!"

The Repugs just don't get it. Having one of the thirty-six black Republicans as their national chairman doesn't make them relevant, and an "off the hook" PR assault won't change the fact that their beliefs and policies are what got us into this mess in the first place, and it takes more than a spook sitting by the door to make us believe that the Repugs have changed.

Really, how stupid do they think we are?

They think we're pretty fucking stupid. Seriously. If Sarah "Hey, I have ovaries too!" Palin couldn't capture my vote, maybe Michael "Hey, I'm black and can use phrases like 'off the hook'!" Steele will make me forget that the Republican Party not only feverishly advocates positions that disproportionately hurt people of color, but actually has lots of just plain ol' racists too.

Or not.

Honestly, I don't know whether to be insulted or just amused. It's really pathetic.

Agreed. I just hope that they stay this stupid through the 2010 elections!
